Grand Canyon Railway offers round-trip adventures through the ever-changing terrain of the Colorado Plateau en route to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Be whisked away and through the world’s largest Ponderosa pine forest as you are transported back in time aboard historic rail cars pulled by mighty diesel locomotives.
The train trip from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon covers 65 miles of restored track and lasts approximately two hours and 15 minutes each way. On-board entertainment is plentiful as strolling musicians, cowboys and other Railway characters help to create a Western atmosphere. Refreshments are available for purchase in Coach Class. Snacks, as well as refreshments, are provided in First, Observation Dome and Luxury Parlor classes.
Once the Grand Canyon Railway arrives at the Grand Canyon Depot – a historic, 1910 structure and the only log depot still in use – guests can feel free to enjoy the relaxing, panoramic views of Grand Canyon at their leisure. Some choose to take a brisk hike on Bright Angel Trail or even dine at one of the several South Rim restaurants, including the famous El Tovar. Others pick a scenic motorcoach rim tour which are available as part of some Railway packages or for purchase at any South Rim Transportation Desk.
The Grand Canyon Railway departs Williams Depot at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 5:45 p.m. But be sure to arrive early because 30 minutes before each train departure there’s a Wild West shootout between Marshal Goodmore and the Cataract Creek Gang that can’t be missed! This shootout always delivers loads of laughs and Western gun-slinging action.
